Wainui is Gisborne’s oldest dedicated surf lifesaving club, formed in 1937, and we are proud to continue the underlying values established all those years ago. Our values: community service, volunteering, participation, development, team work, family, respect, responsibility, safety and high standards. 
We are committed in continuing the long tradition of providing a safe environment on the beach, in the ocean, and in our community. This is a big responsibility.  The value of protecting our beaches and ocean cannot be overstated. Our members have been involved with some very brave and heroic rescues over the years.   This underscores the importance of the training we provide our members to recognize, access, and assist to situations anywhere they are.

Our beach

With its clean, glistening water and white sand – was a huge drawcard but its Pacific Ocean frontage and, at times, unforgiving seas ensured preserving and safeguarding lives became an early concern. The club evolved to provide a community service, sporting opportunities and a way of life that blended a healthy, outdoors lifestyle with camaraderie and solid family values.

Wainui Surf Lifesaving Club has been a lifesaver in many ways with dedicated club involvement often translating into success in life, whatever the field.

A win for an individual was always, first and foremost, a win for Wainui.
